  • Professional and Enterprise customers that are just getting started with HubSpot and will use the content system for some combination of blogs, landing pages, thank you pages, website page versions of emails, but not their full website.

What does this document tell me?

Once your entire website or design has been migrated to the HubSpot CMS, it's time to take your new HubSpot website live! "Going live" means that when someone types your URL into their browsers address bar, they will see your new website that is hosted and updated through HubSpot.

It's very important to get your new website live as soon as possible! If you don't take your HubSpot website live:

  • HubSpot CANNOT start gathering your traffic and lead data
  • You CANNOT start ranking better in Google
  • You CANNOT get traffic to your new HubSpot site

If you are having your website migrated to HubSpot, you must have received your "Migration Complete" notification email before following the instructions below. To check on the status of your migration, contact HubSpot support.

1. Go to your Content Settings

Go to Content > Content Settings.

Go to Content > Content Settings.

2. Click on the Domain Manager link

Click on the Domain Manager link in the Content Tools side menu.

Click on Domain Manager.

3. Click the Connect another domain button

Click on the Connect ... button to begin connecting a new domain or subdomain to your HubSpot account.

4. Type in your subdomain's address

Enter the subdomain that you want to connect to HubSpot. In this example, I'll connect connect.chronoswatchmagazine.com to HubSpot

5. Select what you want to use the domain for in HubSpot

Subdomains can be used for email, landing pages, or full website and blog pages. Currently, if you are hosting your whole website with HubSpot, but want to create web page versions of emails or use the new HubSpot 3 landing page tool, you'll need to use a different subdomain than the one you use for your main site.

Use for Content tools (email and HubSpot 3 landing pages)

In this example, I am connecting connect.chronoswatchmagazine.com for use with the email and new landing page tool. If you are connecting a secondary subdomain, you'll need to redirect it to a primary subdomain. This will allow you to publish specific pages to the secondary domain, but have all other URLs on that domain redirect to a primary subdomain.

Use for Classic CMS (full website pages and HubSpot blog pages)

In this other example, I am connecting www.chronoswatchmagazine.com to HubSpot to use for my full website pages and HubSpot blog pages.

6. Make the appropriate DNS changes on your name server

Copy down the CNAME listed in the Status column.

Then go to your domain registrar and point the CNAME record for the domain you entered in step 4 to the CNAME record you copied in this step. After you've made that change, come back here to continue with step #7.

Here are CNAME instructions for three common providers:

If you are uncomfortable making DNS changes on your registrar or have not done so before, please contact our support team for assistance.

7. Check back on HubSpot... anywhere from 1/2 Hour to 48 Hours

If you go back to your CMS Domain settings, you'll see that your domain name is not yet connected and still has the Waiting message. It could take anywhere from 1/2 hour to 48 hours to connect correctly.

Refresh the page to check to see if this process is complete. When it is, it will look like this:

CONGRATULATIONS! You've taken your new HubSpot-hosted website live. And don't worry, you'll never have to go through that process again!

Root Domains and Redirects

If you are hosting your main website with HubSpot you should setup an HTTP 301 redirect from the root domain (http://yourcompany.com) to the "www" domain (http://www.yourcompany.com) on your nameserver or DNS provider. This is sometimes also referred to as domain or web forwarding with some nameservers or providers.

Here are redirect instructions for two common providers:

If you are unable to create CNAME records or redirects please contact our support team for assistance connecting a domain to an @ record.
