× The Email application is brand new. Because we’re working on improving it daily, what you see in the documentation may differ slightly from what you see in the app.

Email types will allow your contacts to decide which emails they want to receive from you. Click here to scroll through a short presentation on why it's so important to create email types in HubSpot.

1. Go to the email tool

Begin with your Email Manager.

3. Create a new email type

By default, you'll have an email type called Marketing Information. You can either edit that email  type if it's not applicable to your company by clicking Actions > Edit...

... or, you can create a brand new email  type using the fields below, and clicking Create Email when you're done.

Create a name and description for your email type. Some examples of email types might include:

  • Weekly newsletter
  • Monthly newsletter
  • Product updates
  • Promotions & discounts
  • Marketing updates
  • Critical notifications

Both the name and description will be visible on the Communication Preferences screen your contacts will see upon clicking "Unsubscribe," so make sure your descriptions of each are thorough and encourage recipients to stay subscribed.

4. Assign each email to an email type

Once you have created more than one email type, you will see the Email Type dropdown menu appear in the Basic Information section of your email editor. To assign your email to an email type, simply select an email type from this dropdown menu.
